On November 27, 2007, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Member, Steven J. Ybarra JD submitted a resolution proposal to the DNC Hispanic Caucus. His proposal points out the importance of the Latino vote to all of the presidential democratic candidates and how without us they could possibly lose the election. The proposal also addresses the lack of concerted effort by the DNC to attract the Latino voter to the Democratic Party and/or educate the Latino voter on methods of and effective ways to participate in the election process. His plan to resolve this problem includes incorporating the “Casa Blanca” project as an official project of the Hispanic Caucus of the DNC and that the DNC commit funding in the amount of $ 500,000.00 for the initial funding for staff and exigent costs to be determined by a committee appointed by the executive committee of the DNC Hispanic Caucus.
This proposal is a huge stepping stone for us as Latinos because our leaders are beginning to address the importance of our community not only in society but in politics. Educating our community about the political process and potential candidates will become a key component to making our impact in the U.S. stronger and potentially making our issues on the forefront of all democratic candidates.
