Who is more likely to beat McCain?

Who is more likely to beat McCain? Clinton is, according to Pew Research Center.
A report released today by Pew Research Center says that there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

The Latina Vote Matters for Hillary

In the past Latinas have been stereotyped as an unimportant demographic in politics. Why would politicians target their campaigns or ads to the demographic with the highest pregnancy rates, the highest drop-out rates, and the lowest income in this country? Are we that important? YES WE ARE!!

According to Victoria DeFrancesco Soto, a professor of political science at Northwestern University "At the level of the individual, more Latinas are attending and finishing college. At the electoral level, Latinas are getting into the driver's seat and running and winning for elected offices."
South Florida Sun-Sentinel today reports that rhe support of Latinas for Clinton may prove crucial in terms of raw numbers. Texas, on March 4, will be a defining moment for Clinton.

In the long-term, the support of Latinas, as they continue to reach higher socioeconomic levels and hone their political participation skills, will stand a crucial base of support for any candidate. Can Obama crack into this base of support? It is very unlikely.

Texas State Director Invites You

Fellow Hillary Supporters,

My name is Alfredo Jimenez and I am the Texas State Director for Latinos for Hillary. I have lived in Texas for all my life, and have witnessed the effect of many Hillary sponsored legislation. I am voting for Hillary for many reasons; first she is the only one that can defeat a republican and clean up the mess George Bush has created, second she is also the only one with the most experience in education reform and better prepared to replace the no child left behind act. I strongly believe that her experience in many areas can bring the United States into the twenty-first century. Overall she is the best candidate to take hold of the executive branch in this time of hardships and economic downfall.

Clinton stops at El Paisa Restuarant in Rhode Island

On Sunday February 24 Hillary Clinton's last scheduled campaign stop in Rhode Island was at El Paisa, a Colombian restaurant in Central Falls. There she listened to local residents share their personal stories that involved health-care struggles.

State Rep. Grace Diaz, D-Providence, a newly appointed super delegate, joined state Sen. Juan Pichardo, D-Providence, at the event, along with former Progreso Latino leader Patricia Martinez, now the director of the state Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

According to James A. Salazar, publisher of the Hispanic newspaper Nuevos Horizontes "Latinos are enjoying being courted by national candidates."

Now that Politicians are looking to us we are realizing our power; GET INVOLVED !!!

Hillary reaches out to small Latino Communities in TX

Newspapers across Texas are emphasizing the importance of the Latino vote in this primary election. According to the Dallas News today Sen. Clinton is doing a great job of reaching out to our community and has continued to address our issues which will ultimately make a large impact in TX. Lionel Sosa, a marking executive contends that Hispanics are brand loyal. Latinos need personal contact in order to sell any product or candidate. While Obama goes to large urban areas to attract greater numbers, Hillary focuses on smaller cities along the Texas-Mexico border in order to make personal connections with the voters. Sosa doesn't believe Obama is making a bond with Latinos which is making Hillary the front runner.

Hillary also has Dolores Huerta, co founder of United Farm Workers on her side. Ms. Huerta first met Mrs. Clinton shortly after President Clinton took office in 1993 and Mrs. Clinton invited about a dozen "women of color" to visit the White House. This weekend she urged Latinos last week to vote for Hillary.

Latinos for Clinton Unite in TX

This past week Texas Latinos came out in support for Hillary Clinton's presidential bid. She spoke to crowd of more than 1000 Latino voters in a rally in Laredo, TX just before her debate in Austin. Representative Henry Cuellar along with the mayor of Laredo Raul Salinas rallied for Hillary Clinton. During her 40 minute speech, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton pointed to her experience and readiness to bring solution to many Latino issues on day one. She called for a path to citizenship and called for the withdraw of U.S. troops from Iraq. She finally thanked everyone for their huge support from Latino voters and spoke to several individuals.

Sincerely Yours,

Massachusetts State Director

Greeting Fellow Hillary Supporters,

My name is Ophelia Navarro and I am the Massachusetts State Director for Latinos for Hillary. I have lived in Massachusetts for the past 17 years. I grew up in Southwest Arizona and moved to New England to attend Wellesley College. After getting my master's degree in education from Harvard University, I have worked to improve the well being of children and families in the Commonwealth through advocacy, public policy, and coalition building. I am voting for Hillary because she (and she alone) has a clear and comprehensive plan to strengthen the middle class; provide affordable and accessible health care; end the war in Iraq; promote energy independence and fight global warming; improve our schools; fulfill the country's promises to veterans; support parents and care for children; restore America's standing in the world; reforming our immigration system; and creating opportunity for rural America. She embodies the strength, life experience and compassion that this country needs. She is the best choice.

Delegate Hub Website

Theres been much talk in the news about how many delegates it will take to win the Democratic nomination, including discussions about pledged delegates and automatic delegates, or so-called "super delegates."

There are a number of misconceptions about the role that delegates will play in this election, so Hillary has launched a new website, the Delegate Hub, to help you cut through all the myths about the race for delegates.

It is important that you remember

1) A candidate needs 2208 delegate votes to secure the nomination with Florida and Michigan included.

2) After weeks of voting, the race is a virtual tie, with Hillary and Senator Obama now separated by little over 2% of all the delegates to the Democratic Convention.

3) Both Hillary and Senator Obama will need automatic (super) delegates to win the nomination.

Click here to send a note to local automatic delegates telling them why you support Hillary, and why you think she will be the best leader for our party and our nation.

Clinton Courts Hispanic Voters

According to ABC news article today Texas is the most important state remaining on the Democrats' schedule. It will allocate 193 convention delegates — and provides Clinton's best opportunity to jump back into the race, with the state's large Hispanic population.

Texas however has a one-of-a-kind primary/caucus system, where two-thirds of the state's delegates will be awarded in the March 4 primary, while the remaining third will depend on the results of caucuses later that evening.

Voters are permitted — and, in fact, are encouraged by campaigns — to attend both events.

"The Latino voter, from Dallas all the way to the Rio Grande Valley, they've heard they're going to be the difference, and they're going to show up for her," said Marc Campos, a veteran Houston-based Latino Democratic consultant who is not aligned in the presidential race.

"There's a historical link between the Clintons and the community — they've been here, and everybody knows their history," Campos said. "The Latino community feels, they've inspired us, they think we're important for them. They don't want to be the ones who end her political career."

Independent observers expect Latinos to comprise roughly one-third of Democratic primary voters — though the Clinton campaign hopes to nudge that figure above 40 percent.

If Texas Latinos vote as they have in other states, Clinton could expect to receive about two-thirds of the Latino vote.

Latinos rally with Bill Clinton in Madison, Wisconsin

This week Latinos braved the elements of the cold Wisconsin winter and rallied with Bill Clinton in Madison, Wisconsin and had an excellent time! President Bill Clinton charmed and worked supporters at the UW Stock Pavilion while stumping for his wife Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. The former president spoke about healthcare, the economy, and the war in Iraq. Volunteers set up equipment and registered new volunteers at the rally. Before the event, Latinos passed out flyers urging University of Wisconsin students and Madison residents to VOTE FOR HILLARY ON FEBRUARY 19, 2008! The days leading up to the primary, Latinos will greet Senator Clinton at the Exhibition Hall at Monona Terrace and volunteer at the polls. Senator Clinton is making a great showing in Wisconsin and with the continued support of Latinos around the country we will bring Hillary Clinton to the White House in 2008!

Rhode Island Latino Supporters Unite

According to All American Patriots Rhode Island Latino Organizers have been planning events for Hillary. More than sixty Rhode Island Latino leaders and community members joined Mayor David Cicilline, Sen. Juan Pichardo and Providence Councilman Leon Tejada yesterday to organize a statewide barnstorm for Hillary Clinton. The energy-filled meeting at Ada’s Creations on Broad Street on the city’s south side, organized by local activists Emelda Benitez and Marilyn Cepeda, drew Clinton supporters from across the state who pledged to work over the next two weeks to turn out the Latino vote.
Senator Juan Pichardo said: “Hillary Clinton has the qualifications and know-how to get things done in Washington and has proven her ability to build consensus among both parties. I will be working together with the community to help ensure Rhode Island Latinos make our voices heard on March 4.”

Latino community members attending the meeting will be working with hundreds of other supporters to speak to community members, canvas the state and bring Hilary supporters to the polls on primary day.

March 4th Looks Promising for Hillary in TX!

Hillary's chances in winning Texas are increasingly higher than her opponent. Polls have indicated that a third to half of the voters casting ballots in Texas's primary are expected to be Latinos. And results have shown that Clinton has outpulled Obama 2 to 1 among Hispanic voters nationwide.

Hillary Clinton is not a stranger to Latinos in Texas. According to "The Tipping Point in Texas" Newsweek article today, "In 1972 Clinton went door to door in Texas border towns registering Hispanic voters for George McGovern's campaign. She then strengthened her ties to the Rio Grande Valley region when Bill became governor of the neighboring state of Arkansas, when he ran for president, and when her old friends in this area hosted $1,000-a-plate fund-raisers for her Senate campaign."

Since her arrival in Texas she has been working hard to meet and greet everyone that crosses her path. On Tuesday she met in El Paso with 12,000 fans she emphasized "Texas needs a president who actually understands what it's going to take to turn the economy around, to get us universal health care, to save hard-working Americans' homes from foreclosure." On Wednesday she visited McAllen, a border town surrounded that is 90 percent Hispanic. U.S. Representative Ruben Hinojosa introduced Senator Clinton to the crowd, he said "She has been a champion of our community for over 30 years. She did not discover McAllen on the map when it came time to run for president." Clinton can expect "overwhelming" support from South Texas Hispanics, Hinojosa predicts. "She has friends here, and she knows the issues we care about."

Clinton has personally touched "Tejanos" lives in various ways and she will be victorious on March 4!

Please take some time to view her new TV ad aimed at Spanish-speaking Texans that calls Hillary "nuestra amiga."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQdsy15ncpM

My name is Yvonne Salinas and I am a native Houstonian.
I am very proud to represent the Latinos in Houston for our next President Clinton!
I have decided to vote for Hillary because we need a leader who is strong, innovative, inspiring, fiscally responsible, and wise enough to make the best decisions for our country every day she is in office. She will also work hard to unite all of us!

I feel confident that first and foremost, Hillary will use diplomacy in international affairs. I love the fact that every morning she wakes up she chooses to be an advocate for children, women, minorities, the poor and uninsured, gay rights, civil rights and our injured military men and women that have been neglected by our government!

She is an excellent role model for all women and our daughters!
I would be proud to call her 'Madam President!'

Hillary will bring change, experience and hope to the White House!

Latinos Unite in VA. to Show Hillary Support

Over the weekend Latinos came together to phone bank, show visibility and rally for Hillary. While standing on corners of Rt. 7 in Falls Church Sunday, volunteers encouraged drivers and pedestrians passing by to GO VOTE FOR HILLARY on Tuesday. We had an overwhelming response of honks and cheering as drivers passed by to show their support. Although the winds were fierce, volunteers thought it was important to walk through the highly Latino populated community of Culmore to hand out stickers, flyers and buttons. Others stayed and waited for the Spanish mass to let out at St. Anthony's Church.

On Monday, a Latino Rally for Hillary took place at Babylon Cafe in Falls Church. It started off with the official Latino Hillary song called "Oye Hillary" a volunteer effort by a multi-cultural team called Latinas for Clinton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf1aH0mdJIY). We then heard Congresswoman Hilda Solis and Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard give motivational speeches about why they support Hillary and why we should go out there an encourage all our friends and family to vote for her. They touched on important issues to us such as health care for all, opening the doors to higher education, and reenergizing our economy. After the rally, supporters went straight to headquarters to make phone calls and others went to hear Bill Clinton's "Solutions for America" Town Hall at at George Mason University.

Introducing the Wisconsin State Director for Latinos for Clinton

Greeting Fellow Hillary Supporters,
My name is Richard Montez and I am the Wisconsin State Director for Latinos for Hillary. My mother first introduced me to the Clinton’s when I was 5 years old. She told me that the right people had come to the White House and would make life better for us. Today, as an adult, I still feel that sentiment. Senator Clinton is the most viable candidate to win the Presidency for the Democratic Party. Her comprehensive immigration plan, her push for Universal Health Care, and her more than three decades of experience not only make her formidable but show she is tried, true, and ready to serve the American people. That is why I support Hillary Rodham Clinton for President of the United States of America. Please contact me for more information about Latino oriented events, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities in the state of Wisconsin.

Latina MD State Delegate Endorses Hillary

Maryland State Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez Endorses Hillary for President
The Clinton campaign announced today the endorsement of Maryland State Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez.

Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Gutierrez is a longtime political activist, who was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2002. Representing Montgomery County’s District 18, Gutierrez is the first Latina ever elected to serve in the Maryland General Assembly. From 1990 to 1998, she was elected to the Montgomery County Board of Education in Maryland, and served both as President and Vice-President of the Board. She was, at that time, the only Hispanic high-level elected official in the Washington area. She holds the distinction of being the first Latina elected to this position in Maryland, and the first Salvadorian-American elected to public office in the history of the country.

Gutierrez has been member of the Appropriations Committee, the Health & Human Resources Subcommittee, the Oversight Committee on Pensions, the Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, and the Joint Committee on Welfare Reform, among others.

"I believe every single family in America should have access to quality affordable health care," said Gutierrez. "Senator Clinton sees an America where we shouldn’t just provide health care for some people, or most people. She sees an America where we should provide every single man, woman and child with quality, affordable health care - leaving no one out," she added. "I know that ensuring the 47 million invisible Americans without health care will be one of her top priorities."

Gutierrez served as Deputy Administrator of the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) in the U.S. Department of Transportation during the Clinton Administration. She directed the agency’s safety, regulatory, and research and development programs, with oversight of major national transportation safety programs including Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety, Pipeline Safety, and Emergency Response.

With over thirty years in the public and private corporate sector, Gutierrez has experience working as a systems engineer, and experience with strategic planning, program management and computer engineering. As President and CEO of Sol Quality Systems, Inc., she started a small business providing management and engineering services. Recently, she retired as a senior executive with Computer Sciences Corporation, as Director of Strategic IT Consulting and Quality Management.

"I am very grateful for the support that Ana Sol Gutierrez is giving me," said Hillary Clinton. "I look forward to working together to bring the solutions that our country needs."

Latinos showed Hillary Support on Super Tuesday!!

"Latino Tuesday" lived up to it's name! Hispanic voters played a key role in Clinton's campaign results yesterday. The polls indicate that Clinton has the support of 6 out of every 10 Hispanics. This is great news to our community. By mobilizing ourselves we are able to have our voices heard.

Hillary won California, New York and Arizona who have large Latino populations. In california the exit polls show that 2/3 of Hispanics voted for Hillary. The numbers were very similar to her husband'd Bill Clinton who won 82% of Latino votes in California.

There are talks that our vote will also be a critical factor in November’s general election with analysts suggesting Republicans would have to secure more than 30 percent of the Latino vote nationwide to win the swing states and the White House.
Continue to stay involved and motivate other fellow Latinos to vote Hillary!!

Clinton wins Big on Super Tuesday!

Senator Clinton won critical primaries in Massachusetts, New Jersey and — most important — California and New York making her the front-runner in the race. Clinton won big among women in the big states and among Hispanic voters around the country. Help us continue to win the Latino vote for Senator Clinton in the upcoming primaries including Washington, Louisiana, Maryland and Virginia.
